Muslims boast that the Quran is a literary masterpiece, that its eloquence is unsurpassed and unmatchable. Such claims imply that the Quran expresses its contents and themes in the clearest manner, and that it contains no grammatical ambiguities. In fact, Muslims will argue that the Quran is considered the standard for Arabic grammar. Moreover, this claim suggests that whenever the Quran makes a point it will allow the reader to understand the issue being addressed with an unmatched clarity. This episode will expose the fallacy of the “Argument from Literary Excellence.”

If someone said the Bible is a literary miracle, I’d tell them their reasoning is idiotic and that such a characterization is impossible to quantify (and I believe the Bible). Why should I be any less offended when someone tries to such an argument on the incoherent dumpster fire that is the Quran?

I’ve found many mouse nests in my barn made of wads of tiny bits of old newspapers. If I took them all and glued them to a large sheet of paper, it would be more of a literary miracle than the Quran.

As per David’s logic. We shouldn’t believe the miracle given to Moses to turn a rod into a :snake:. And none of the magicians of that time were able to replicate it.

If today with the knowledge of science and technology someone is able to pull a trick similar to this does it make Old Testament false??? Use your brain folks use your brain.

Quran was revealed while the classical Arabic poetry was on its highest peak. And yet none of the people who Muhammed was talking to replied with “wait, here you go another Surah like it”. Just like the people around Moses wasn’t able to do magic like Moses. Quran remains unchanged for 1400 years

I’m a atheist, and I cannot agree with what wood says. I read Arabic and Hebrew and the Coran is beautifully written but saying stupid thing but the beauty of the Coran cannot be argued by a non Arabic reader. Although, the Bible is way more profound and tells you much more about human profound values and teaches us much more about history than Coran does. As the Coran is very vague about the history of moise and Jesus and others historical figures in religions.

Wood is clearly biased and do not understand Arabic and he is just their to claim that Quran is shit in term of poetic beauty.

That’s why you should never believe a man with a turban or a man with a beard :rofl::rofl::rofl:

It seems very plausible that the Bible could stand by the argument of literary excellence for one evidence of it, it has wisdom and meaning throughout that is very unique, it could stand by that but it needs context, accuracy, and other evidences for it to be solid.

When i was Muslim i struggled everytime while reciting this surah[109] ,not just this one leaving 1 Qul other 3 Qul are so hard to memorize and recite :smiling_face_with_tear:…btw these 4 surahs are called 4 Qul… at some point i gave up on reciting them :rofl::rofl::rofl:

This is a very good point. The Qur’an is the final message of God for all people for all time. Yet it’s one of the most primitive, “this-worldly”, and least sophisticated texts in the world. I’d say of all the texts of major world religions it is the least impressive.

I don’t believe that the Bible is true, yet I appreciate that it’s a great work of literature. Lincoln actually quoted the Mark 3:25 “a house divided against itself cannot stand” with regard to the abolition of slavery.

Robert Oppenheimer quoted Bhagavad Gita 11:32 (“I have become Death*, destroyer of worlds…”) in reference to the Manhattan Project. This is not an expression of might or victory, as you might think, but a philosophical justification for deploying the atomic bomb to bring a quick end to the war. This becomes clear in context.

No one has ever famously quoted a Qur’an verse in correct context to make a profound statement.

  • The literal Sanskrit word there is “time”, but “death” means about the same thing in context
