Norm Macdonald: The Image of God

In his more serious moments, the late comedian Norm Macdonald discussed God, suffering, the Bible, Christianity, and the soul. In this video, David Wood examines Norm’s comments about the Christian doctrine that human beings are created in the image of God, and that Jesus Christ is the mediator between God and man.

I grew up Christian. I never really caught on with it, and I always felt like everything we did at church was superficial and nonsensical. I still feel that way about the church I grew up at, and I still think that most of the employees there are only trying to make more money. (Not that I condemn that, I’m totally fine with it, they just make it obvious.)

THIS video is the first time in nearly two decades that I was floored about my faith. I’ve always just put off the thought of it, telling myself “I’ll figure it out one day”. But hearing this really threw me for a loop I haven’t been on since my childhood.

This one is gonna make me think hard for awhile.

Thanks for the great video.

No one take attention of the box behind you :rofl::rofl: “contains one origami Goat “:goat::rofl::rofl::rofl:

GOD created us in His image and likeness and the devil transformed us into his

One of your best!

The basic premise in Abrahamic religions is that God is all good.
But if we are the image of God, that is, structurally & functionally the reflection of God, then by all means such structure & function should also lead to all-good. But that’s not the case.
Are we to say that God can do evil things too, just as we, through our structure and function, can be trapped by sins and rebellions?
If the answer is no, then we are more “godly” than God itself, because God is constrained to do all-good, while we, despite having similar structure, can do anything, even the evil deeds.

Besides, to say that humans, and only humans, are the image of God is rather limiting on the part of God itself. We humans, structurally, are not perfect. Our cognition, our memory, our perception, our ability to survive, our judgment, they’re far from flawless. Let alone how we function, if structurally we’re not perfect?

Dharmic religions on the other hand, believe that everything is God. Not just the Atman itself (the individual soul), but the Maya (the world & universe) is all God. Brahman (the supreme consciousness) decides to “play” or “dream” into the universe he himself created (Maya) by limiting himself into the individual soul (Atman). By being trapped in this Maya thus Brahman can be fooled into thinking he’s living as an individual consciousness (be they humans, animals, deities, demons, gods and goddesses, any living being); He experiences everything his Maya has to offer with the utmost immersion. Through this Maya, the God can experience and do good and evil, it doesn’t matter, there’s no good and evil, it’s all just experiences to him. And Him alone who shall reap (experience) all the Karma that he sowed. For every action there’s a reaction, you reap what you sow, what goes around comes around; so if you want to experience bad & evil, then do bad & evil, and vice versa.

To say that the idea of “God is Everything” is nonsense, I think, is a premature call. Quantum physics (see what Michio Kaku has to say on this) even flirts with the idea that the universe itself IS a dream. A universe exists, because there’s a consciousness that “perceives” and “observes” the universe, otherwise there’s no universe. Just like when you’re dreaming, rarely, if ever, you’ll realize that it’s a dream, UNLESS you wake up and decide it’s a dream. The process of creation and perception all happen simultaneously & continuously, that’s why He’s called The Creator, He constantly creates the Maya for Him to experience & perceive.

I am losing the battle, i am sorry david. i am only a lowly human i am begging him to recieve me

Thanks again David many blessings to you and your family and friends and YouTube teams

The term for that is “Meta”

R.I.P Norm

Everything you do is only possible because of how He made you, with your mind and your body. It’s like being amazed with the work of a programmer when he makes an AI capable of things humans can’t even do, except God not only made His creation capable of making things like that, but He can still always surpass His creation.

Man is not truly one, but truly two. All human beings, as we meet them, are commingled out of good and evil.

How are you going to image God today?
I would like to see this on billboards about every five miles.

The way that the Dostoevsky excerpt ends with the comment about “sweets” sounds like it could’ve been word for word an excerpt from a Norm Macdonald act.

God bless you, your videos are like water for my soul.

Repent of your sins and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ that has died for sins and rose from the tomb on the third day and let the Holy Spirit within you, and you shall be saved.

This video is good, but near the beginning you describe Norm’s beliefs as shifting. I’ve listened to all these same clips and the reason for these shifts are because these excerpts were not in chronological order

Define divine?

People (“Christians”) look at me sideways whenever i tell them pulp fiction is one of my favorite Christian movies …
