Reza Aslan on Muhammad and the Age of Aisha

For a careful discussion of Muhammad’s relationship with Aisha, based on Islam’s most trusted sources, be sure to read: Answering Muslims: Was Muhammad a Pedophile?.

Reza Aslan claims that Aisha had already reached puberty when she was taken to Muhammad’s house as a bride. But does Reza’s assertion line up with the Qur’an and the Hadith? In this video, Robert Spencer, Sam Shamoun, and David Wood discuss the evidence.

This is over de wood
Sahih al-Bukhari 476
Narrated `Aisha:
(the wife of the Prophet) I had seen my parents following Islam since I attained the age of puberty. Not a day passed but the Prophet (ﷺ) visited us, both in the mornings and evenings. My father Abu Bakr thought of building a mosque in the courtyard of his house and he did so. He used to pray and recite the Qur’an in it. The pagan women and their children used to stand by him and look at him with surprise. Abu Bakr was a Softhearted person and could not help weeping while reciting the Qur’an. The chiefs of the Quraish pagans became afraid of that (i.e. that their children and women might be affected by the recitation of Qur’an).

Twisting facts to get to what you want is a disgrace. Anti Muslim that is clear and putting Rena Aslan’s name on the title is a deception just like your content.

Idiots Josef had 90 years when he married marry at 12 go check before talking about others

If God making a 15 year old pregnant to birth a messiah is not child abuse, then yall have double standards at best.

For those that say that the prophet was a pedophile because he married aisha:

  1. It must be in the Young boy/Girl best interest before marrying them of to someone. If it is not in their interest, then the marriage would be considered haram and therefore invalid.

  2. Boy/girl must have reached puberty, so that they are biologically considered adults.

  3. Boy/girl must be physically mature and mentally mature.

  4. If the above is approved the one marrying the young boy/girl must not sexually touch the boy/girl ie. intercourse or kissing until they are ready for that. And there is ruling for when they are ready for that. Otherwise there would be punishment for such actions and the marriage would be invalid.

  5. If someone was to say it would be better of to marry off someone to someone that is only young. That is false because of the fact that many young people in a relationship leave each other early off many times. And who is to say the young/old man or women would not satisfy her/him because of mainly their maturity, in which many young adults lack and therefore split with their partner.

:point_right: Was Aisha the mother of the believers 6 years old when The Messenger of Allah Almighty sermoned her (Engagement)! and was she 9 years old when got Married to the Prophet? (peace and blessings be upon him)

:large_blue_circle: And Sadly we still find many muslims try to proof this Lie against the Messenger and the Mother of believers, snd give the Islamophobes and haters a reason to Attack the Messenger with falsehood.
Let Stop this wrongdoing, and these are the truth.

:arrow_right:《These are some of the irrefutable and strong evidences, that shows her Age was at least 21 years old at the time of her marriage.》

:arrow_right: (16 undisputed evidences from the Sunnah Biography of the Messenger of God Almighty, as indicated by many scholars and researchers from Saudi and Egyp).

:arrow_forward: This work is in defense of the Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) and the authentic biography that they want to distort.

:red_circle: 12) The Hadeeth book of Nisa’e narrated in his Sunan, and the ruling Mustadrak of Al Hakim, and Ibn Hayane in his Sahih, via Saheeh of Al-Husain Ibn Waqid, from Abdullah ibn Buraydah from his father, he said: Abu Bakr and Umar may Allah be pleased with them both asked the hand of Fatima, the Messenger of Allah said, peace be upon him: She was young, and Ali got engaged to her and he married her from him ([1]).
The age of Fatimah the daughter of the Prophet was much older than the alleged 9 years of age of the mother of the believers, Aisha, at the time of her marriage, and still the messenger didn’t allow a young girl to get married.
(Some source mention the age of Fatima was around 18 years of age)
And This clear evidence that the Messenger wouldn’t allow young girls to get married.

:red_circle: 13) This Famous Hadeeth is an other proof:
The Prophet said: Teach your children to pray at seven years and admonish them strongly for it at ten years, and separate them in their beds (Boys and girls).
Narrator: Its chain of transmission is authentic Source: Musnad Ahmad
A girl of 9 years is still an immature child.

:red_circle: 14) It was never mentioned in the biography that Quraysh or the Arabs before embracing Islam question the prophet integrity of the false alleged Engagement of a 6-year-old girl and 9-year-old marriage to her, and it was never questioned by the other peoples (e.g Romans, Persians and others) and this evidence that this matter/Fabrication is a modern insertion/manupulation of dates/Age in Bukhari/Muslim 2 Hadeeths.
(As these books have other hadeeths contracts this false allegation).

:red_circle: 15) Analysis/Criticism of the so called hadiths in question supports (Claiming 9 years old): The Alledged hadith in which mentioned the age of (Aisha) came from five paths, all of which go back to a man called (Hisham bin Urwa), as Ibn Hajar said in (Hadi al-Sari) and (al-Tahdheeb): “Abd al-Rahman bin Yusuf bin Kharash said, and Malik (Madhab Al-Maliki) did not accept him/his narations, he was informed that Malik objected his narations to the people of Iraq - he came to Kufa three times - First - he used to say: My father told me, he said I heard Aisha, and he came the second, and he used to say: My father told me about Aisha, and he came to the third, and he used to say: on the authority of my father on the authority of Aisha.

The meaning is simply that (Hisham Ibn Urwa) was a sincere person in Medina, then when he went to Iraq, his memorization of the hadith began to get worse and he began to (pervert/mix information) that is to attribute the hadith to other than the narrator, then he began to say (on) my father, instead of (I heard or told me), and in knowledge The hadith is the word (heard) or (tell me) is stronger than the narrator’s saying (on the authority of so-and-so), and the hadith in Al-Bukhari thus says in it Hisham on (my father) and not (I heard or told me), which confirms the doubt about the authenticity of the hadith, then the most important point is that the imam (Malik) said: The hadith of (Hisham) in Iraq is not accepted, so if we apply this to the hadith that Al-Bukhari produced, we will find that it is verified.
The hadith was not seen by a single narrator from Medina, but all of them are Iraqis, which proves that (Hisham bin Urwa) had narrated it in Iraq after His memorization worsened, and it is inconceivable for (Hisham) to stay in Medina for a long life and he does not mention a hadith like this even once, so we do not find any mention of the age of Mother of the believers Aisha, when she married the Prophet in the book (Al-Muwatta) of Imam Malik, who was the one who saw and heard (Hisham Ibn Urwa) directly in Medina.
So with these grave problems these two ailments to doubt the supports of Hicham’s narration.
Among the shortcomings of his narations is the fact that some authentic narrations have appeared in al-Sahih al-Bukhari from ways in which Hisham does not appear.

:star2: The Simple truth is many researches believe the Narations of (Hicham Ibn Urwa) was altered/Manupulated from mentioning Aisha (MOB) was born years before the Message starts, to that she was born years before Hijra.

:red_circle: 16) These are Analysis/Criticism of the Alleged narations of (Hicham Ibn Urwa) from books of hadith and biography:
Ibn Katheer - may God have mercy on him - said in the beginning and the end (3/37): (Ibn Ishaq listed the names of the early companions of the Companions, may God be pleased with them, he said Abu Ubaidah, Abu Salamah, Al-Arqam bin Abi Al-Arqam, Othman bin Maza’un, Ubaidah bin Al-Harith and Saeed bin became Muslim. Zaid and his wife, Fatima bint Al-Khattab, Asma daughter of Abi Bakr, and Aisha daughter of Abi Bakr…

That Ibn Ishaq said: Then God commanded His Messenger, after three years of the mission, to announce the message with what He was commanded, and to be patient on the harm of the polytheists. He said, and the companions of the Messenger of God, when they prayed, went in the reefs and hid their prayers among their people. As Saad bin Abi Waqas in a group of people praying in the reefs of Mecca when some polytheist appeared on them denounced them and reproached them.

The researchers concluded from this narration that it indicates that (Aisha) the household of Abu bakr, embrace Islam before the Prophet announced the call in the year 3, while the Mother of the belivers Aisha was (4) at least.
Fact: It is correct that the house of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq was the first to embrace Islam at the very beginning of the Prophet’s mission on the first year.
And even if the lowest estimate is taken (Not the case) in the year (4), which is equivalent to the year (614AD), meaning that she believed in at least the year (3), that is, in the year (613AD), so if (Aisha) according to (Bukhari’s) narration was born in the year (4) From the beginning of the revelation, this means that she was not on the surface of the earth when the Prophet spoke out in the call in the year (4) of the beginning of the da’wah, or that she was a new born baby, and this contradicts all the evidence received.
but a proper account of her age confirms that she was born in at least (4) year before The beginning of the revelation, meaning the year (606AD), which implies that her age when pronouncing the call in year (614AD) equals (8) years, which is consistent with the correct timeline of events and invalidates the well-known/Fabricated narration of the age at the marriage.

:red_circle: 17) The Qu’ran forbids allowing the marriage of Children:
Every time Allah Almighty metion the marriage specify it for women. (Not Children)
Examples:
:black_small_square:︎《…˹if you were to marry them˺, then marry other women of your choice…》Al-Nisa 4:3
:black_small_square:︎《Do not marry former wives (Women) of your fathers…》Al-nisa 4:22
:black_small_square:︎《They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ regarding women. Say, “It is Allah Who instructs you…)…(…the Book concerning the orphan women you (Men) deprive of their due rights but still wish to marry…》Al-nisa 4:127
:star2: These’re clear evidence that Children are not fit for marriage, and Therefore the alledged marriage of Aisha (MOB) of 9 years has no validity at all.

:red_circle: 18) This False allegation (9 years old) is recent.
This’s recent and not old, and this indicates that if it had occurred, it would have been a real plague exploited by the first enemies of Islam who did everything in their power to undermine this religion, whether they were from the Quraysh, Romans, persians as well as others, and we all know the harm that the Prophet (PBUH) faced when he married the mother of the believers Zainab Bint Jahsh, even though she was an old lady married without any obstacle, as the Islamophobes look for any fake excuse to attack the Messenger of God Almighty and Islam.

Salam Alaikum, Peace be to Everyone.

:red_circle: 4) Aisha’s Islam before Omar Ibn al-Khattab: (This’s a clear strong evidence)
According to Ibn Hisham’s summary of the Prophet’s biography of Ibn Ishaq, Aisha (Abu bakr Al Sidiq Family) embrace Islam before Umar Ibn al-Khattab embraced it, which means that she was at least 14 years old at the time of her wedding to the Prophet, peace be upon him, thus dropping the age of 9 years completely.

:red_circle: 5) And This’s an ultimate proof:
Knowing the Age of Aisha (MOB) by calculations, based on het older Sister Asma (may Allah be pleased with her):
According to Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Zinad: Asmaa was ten years older than Aisha (biography of the flags of the nobles, al-Dhahabi: Maj. 2, p. 289, Foundation for the Message, Beirut, 1992). Ibn Katheer also agrees with Ibn Abi al-Zinad’s narration and says that she is - Asma: Ten years older than her sister Aisha (The Beginning and the End, Ibn Katheer Maj. 8, p. 371, Dar Al-Fikr Al-Arabi - Giza 1933).

Ibn Katheer agrees with what all historians affirm without disagreement that Asma "witnessed the killing of her son during that year (73 AH), as previously mentioned, and five days later she died. And like other accounts, she did not die after 5 days, but rather after 10 or 20 days, or a few days later, or even a hundred days after the accident, so that the most likely story remains that she died a hundred days later, when she is 100 years old. (Beginning and End Ibn Katheer, Mug 8, p. 372, Dar Al-Fikr Al-Arabi, Giza 1933).

And bin Hajar Al-Asqalani narrates that “Asma bint Abi Bakr Al-Siddiq [That Al-Nitaqain], the wife of Al-Zubayr bin Al-Awam, one of the great companions, lived a hundred years and died in the year of seventy-three (Al-Tahdheeb, Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani, p. 654, chapter on Women, Harf) a thousand).

According to the opinion of most historians, Asma, Aisha’s older sister were ten years older than the last, and if Asma 'reached the 100 years of Hijra, then her age at the time of the migration would necessarily be 27 years old, and therefore Aisha’s age at that time would be 17 years old, and she also began living Along with the Prophet and she was 19 or 20 years old. Based on the narrations of Ibn Hajar, Ibn Katheer and Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Al-Zinad, the age of Aisha at the time of her marriage to the Prophet was between 19 and 20 years at least.

:red_circle: 6) The date of Aisha’s death determines the date of her marriage:
It is also mentioned in Al Maarif by Ibn Qutaybah that Aisha, the mother of the believers, died in 58 AH at the age of 77. Thus, the age of Aisha, the mother of the believers, immediately before the emigration, was 19 years (77-58), and since she married to the noble Messenger in the second year of the Hijra…so she was 21 years old at that time.

Even if we take the minimum approach, the presence of other accounts in other historical sources that determine Aisha’s age at 66 years of age, assuming that her age was only 5 years + 12 years (from the fourth year before the mission until the second year of migration) = 17 years at least.

:red_circle: 7) Sahih al-Bukhari prooves Aisha’s age:
This’s another narration confirms for us Aisha’s participation in the Battle of Uhud. “Anas narates that on Uhud: I saw Aisha bint Abi Bakr and Umm Salim, rolled their hands ready (Sleeves) - I witness the work of their arms - transport water containers on their bodies, empty them into the mouths of the people, then return and fill it, then come and empty it into the mouths of the people (Bukhari, Al-Fath. No. (2880).
This is a clear evidence of their grown age. Her age and her ability to serve the army during the Battle of Uhud. (As it’s well known fact the Messenger never allow young children to participate in battles).
Thus, it is confirmed once again that Aisha witnessed the battles of Uhud and Badr.

:red_circle: 8) Al-Bukhari narrates to us in another hadith:
On the authority of Yahya bin Saeed, said that Nafeh said, on the authority of Ibn Omar, May Allah be pleased with them, that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, he offered himself to the messenger on the day of Uhud when he was fourteen years old, and Messenger didn’t allow him, and offered himself at the Ahzab, and he was allowed at the age of 15.
(Kitab Al-Maghazi, Chapter of the Battle of Al-Khandaq, which is the Ahzab or Trench).
This is a very strong evidence that the Prophet, peace be upon him, was not permitting to let someone under the age of fifteen in the Battles.
:star2:This is evidence that the age of 9 years has no validity at all.

:red_circle: 9) Participation in the battle of Badr:
In Sahih Muslim, a narration confirms Aisha’s participation in the battle of Badr and is attributed to Aisha in the course of her discussion of her trip to Badr and about an important accident that occurred while traveling: “… even if we were in the tree …” Which is clear evidence that she was among the delegation Traveling towards Badr, and the Prophet does not take children with him. (The Book of fighting and travel).

:red_circle: 10) In the seerah of The Messenger by Muhammad ibn Is’haq, mentioned the 20 people who were the first to embrace Islam in the first year of the message start.
As he has given number 18 to Asmaa (Dhato nitaqayn), and Number 19 to Aisha (Mother of the believers).
And This’s a clear proof that she was old enough to embrace Islam at the start of the message (Be’tha) and not as they falsely claim she was born at around year 6 of the message start.

:red_circle: 11) An other solid proof:
The Great Historian and (Mufasir) Abu Ja’far Ibn Jarir Al-Tabari at his Translation/explanation of the Death of Abu Bakr, mentioned the wives of Abu Bakr in Jahelia (Before message started):
The first he mentioned is Qutayla and her sons Asmaa (Dato netaqayn) and Abdullah.
As well as Umm Ruman and her sons Aisha (MOB) and Abdul Rahman.
And he clarified the all these 4 children were born before the message start.

☆ First clarification:
Had the Prophet married our mother Aisha (Mother of the Believers) at the age of 9, we would’ve been the first to defend this legislation, because the Prophet is the legislator.
However, it is a repetition of slander in the name and message of God, with many people repeat it without proper research and knowledge, believing a lie, and aim to defend a fabrication that didn’t take place at all.

☆ Second explanation:
The heart is sad to see some people who insults the Prophet biography, they call him the ugliest and the most vile names.
E.g. that he sexually assaulted a young girl (God forbid)
Many Muslims include some scholars repeat what Islamophobes say, and some of them try to justify something that the Prophet DID NOT do in the first place.
:black_small_square:︎ They say, women in hot countries mature quickly, or at the time of the Prophet women were larger in size, which justifies their marriage at a very young age.
(These justification are not needed because Aysha the mother of the belivers didn’t marry at the age of 9 yeard old).

:point_right: Initial summary:
The correct and logical answer is the source narrator who mentioned the age of Aisha, and all the so called correct sources end with (Hisham Ibn Urwa) the source.
The clear mistake that he made (or actually a recent alteration), is in mentioning that the mother of the belivers Aysha was born before the Immigration, and the correct is before the Mission started. (And this simple fact will make sense and align with all proofs and calculations we are presenting).
And because of these errors, the Islamophobes find easy grounds to attack the Messenger of God in the most horrific way, trying to cause ignorant muslims to doubt their Deen.

■ These 18 agreed upon proofs show the age of Aisha without a doubt (May Allah is pleased with her).
There is more evidence, but this is enough.

:red_circle: 1) The date of the revelation of Surat Al-Qamar determines the age of Aisha (MOB):
It came in Sahih al-Bukhari on the authority of Yusuf ibn Mahek, who said: “At the time of Aisha, the mother of the believers, she said: It was revealed to Muhammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him, and I am a Maid. 《Rather, the hour is their time and the hour is worse and more important》knowing Surat Al-Qamar was revealed in the sixth or seventh year before the Hijra and the Messenger, peace be upon him, married her in the second year of the Hijra. If we believed the narrations that specify the age of nine years, this would mean that Surat al-Qamar was revealed while she was a baby, not a maid. She plays as she said in this hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari.

Facts:
Surat Al-Qamar was revealed at the beginning of the Prophet’s mission in Makkah.
And a maid, is not a child, meaning her age is more than 10 years or adolescence.
If her age is 10 years at least at the time of marriage in the second year of migration will be more than 20 years at least.

:red_circle: 2) Another hadith in Al-Bukhari specifies the age of the Mother of the Believers, Aisha.

Al-Bukhari (Bab - Jewar of Abu Bakr during the time of the Prophet) reported that (Aisha) said: I have never thought of my parents except when they are professing the religion, and not a day passes for us without the Messenger of God coming to us both ends of the day in the morning and the evening, and when the Muslims were afflicted, Abu Bakr went out, migrating toward Abyssinia).
Then (Aisha) says that she did not understand her parents except when they were religiously professed, and that before the migration of Abyssinia as I mentioned, and she Said that the Prophet used to come to their home every day, which shows that she was rational for these visits, and what is certain is that the migration of Abyssinia was unanimous among the history books in the year (5) From the beginning of the Prophet’s mission, which corresponds to the year (615 AD),

The narration that was mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari, which indicates events that occurred before the fourth year of the mission and that Aisha (MOB) narrated, indicates that Aisha was present before the fourth year of the mission started, and not only existed, but she was at the height of her awareness and understanding, enabling her to narrate the events of a story that occurred In this way and this means: If we assume that Aisha (Mother of the believers) was at least 5 to 7 years old before the fourth year of the mission, as it’s realisticly and practicly impossible. This means that her age when the Messenger Married to her in the second year of the Hijra, cannot be in any way less than 15 to 17 years at least, and this undermines the narration that says that it was 9 years old from its roots!

:red_circle: 3) Her previous Marriage before the Messenger of God Almighty to Jabir bin Mut`im. (Was a Marriage and not just an engagement).
And this is one of the largest evidences out there, which confirm maturity without any doubt.
From reviewing the evidence of Abbas Al-Akkad, the evidence that he is more likely to say that Aisha’s age at the time of her wedding to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was not less than fifteen years at least.

Based on this extensive research of Al-Akkad is certain that the Messenger of God (may God bless him and his family) married to Aisha when she had reached a woman age, and she was seventeen at the time of marriage at the very least. And not that she was at that time a girl of six or nine, playing with swings, as claimed in hadiths atributed to her.

As for the claim that Aysha (MOB) had never been married before the marriage to the messenger, is also one of the well-known lies.
She had previously married Jubayr ibn Muta`im, then divorced, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, married her.
This is exactly what Ibn Saad narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Abi Malika: “The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, when he spoke about Aisha, said Abu Bakr: I was given her to Mut’im for his son Jubayr, so let me save her from them, so he took her away from them as he divorced her, eventually the Messenger of God, may God bless him, married her. ” (Al-Tabaqat al-Kubra by Ibn Saad, c.7, p. 59).

Facts: Many hadiths show that Umm Jubayr rejected the mother of the believers, by saying to Abu Bakr (Do you want my son to accept Islam as your daughter did), meaning Aysha became Muslim.
This indicates that Aisha, the mother of the believers, was an adult and mature and took the decision of Islam as an adult, and this is in Mecca.

If we believe that her marriage to the Prophet was 9 years, then that means that she was married to Jubayr while she was a baby, and this is not acceptable to even think of.

Also, her mother, the wife of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq - may God be pleased with her - saw that her daughter had grown up when her engagement was annulled (the truth is her divorce from Jubayr bin Mut’im bin Uday), and when she learned that the Messenger - may God bless him and grant him peace - had mentioned her for Engagement to himself, she said to Abu Bakr - be pleased God on him -: (This is your daughter Aisha, Allah had moved Jubayr and his family out of her way, so push her to the Messenger - may God bless him and grant him peace - so you may receive goodness and blessing)
:black_small_square:︎The mother the best to know the signs of her daughter readiness for marriage and signs of her femininity.

So what is certain is that Aisha had been married and given to her husband, then she was surrendered and divorced from him, and this also confirms that she had reached the age of readiness at that time of her marriage, not that she was a child.
Note: as for whether she was a virgin in this marriage? The Hadeeth is silent about explaining that either way. Our strong beliefs that she wasn’t a Virgin, as the narration is sensed, as it confirms that Abu Bakr had “given” her by her husband in marriage.

Ibn Saad narrated in Tabaqah (8: 09) on the authority of Abdullah bin Malikah who said the speeches of the Messenger of God (may God bless him and his family and grant them peace) Aisha bint Abi Bakr Al-Siddiq. He said: I had given her Mut’im for his son Jubayr, so let me until I save/drove her from them, so he took her away from them and Jubayr divorced her, so the Messenger of God (may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family) married her. End.
And Muhammad ibn Saad is a great hafiz and is a great scholar who is approved by the Sunni scholars unanimous- (see: Tadhkira al-Hafiz by al-Dhahabi) 2: 425.

:black_small_square:︎continue to part 2

Aisha did NOT exist, she is invented by Shia (to

be the enemy of Ali). The Shia made Aisha fight Ali in battle of the

camel . The Sunnis claimed that Aisha is the wife of Muhammad. Both

Shia and Sunnah believed these 2 lies. After that a problem arose. The

age of marriage of Aisha. Because the battle of the camel was at year

35H,while Muhammad died at year 11H. So in order for Aisha to fight Ali

she must be (not so old) , so they made her marry the prophet as a

child.

That our dear Prophet took her as a wife when she was 9, is a lie, ridiculous and absurd. The story comes only from a bogus and a junk Hadith from Ibne Hisham, who was not a scholar of Islam. There is nothing in the pre-Islam pagan Arab culture to show that the Arabs gave their little

daughters to older men. Those who accept that absurd hadith should be ashamed of themselves.

Ayesha was born in 605. Prophet was born in 570. Prophet married Ayesha when he was 53. It means
he married her in 623. So, Ayesha was 623-605 = 18 years old. So simple!

How can one believe in that ridiculous hadith of Ibne Hisham and defend the silly assumption that he

consummated his marriage with her when she was 9?

If the Prophet had taken Ayesha to bed when she was 9, it would have become Sunnah for all
Muslims. And Muslims would be marrying 9 year old girls merrily. Will all the so-called

scholars who defend that ridiculous and absurd hadith give their 9 year old
daughter to old men happily?
